 Silent Procession

Of penitential character, the Silent Procession takes place on Good Friday, starting at Plaza del Carmen as it was the Carmelite monks who since 1954 established this devotion in the state capital of San Luis Potosí, and around the Cathedral, following the processional trace of monastic convents in the 17th century, located in the Historic Center.

The procession comprises 28 fraternities that carry images depicting the various Stations of the Cross, and participants dress in frocks alluding the colors of their parish. Some groups of ladies wear black veil and comb fashioned Andalusian, other ladies wear traditional rebozo (shawl) from Santa Maria del Río. It takes approximately 4 hours, as the column stops to listen to sorrowful chants and the brothers to rest from their heavy load.

Along the route, chairs are placed for visitors as well as local stalls, to observe the passage of the procession and participate in the mysticism that unites the people of San Luis Potosi.

Fiesta de Luz  When light is used to make art, when a monument comes alive and becomes color tones and dances, is known as the “Festival of Light,” where the light itself is the brush and the monument, its canvas. Including the history and traditions of each place where it projects. The “Festival of Light” is projected onto the facade of historic buildings with audiovisual sequences that highlight its architectural beauty.

The Cathedral, an old building from 1600’s and remodeled in the late 19th century, is endowed with magical colors describing our indentity.
